This book documents the outcomes and findings of the research project MAGNET (My Adaptive Global NET) and its follow‑up “MAGNET Beyond,” which brought together universities, research centres, industry partners and SMEs across continents under the EU’s Sixth Framework Programme. It introduces the concept of “Personal Networks” (PNs) — user‑centric, secure, adaptive networks composed of multiple devices and network types, capable of dynamic configuration depending on context. The book covers PN architecture, network protocols and air‑interfaces optimized for PNs, security/privacy/trust mechanisms for multi‑device, multi‑network environments, implementation prototypes (including low‑data‑rate and high‑data‑rate air‑interfaces), testbeds, business models, standardisation efforts, and visions for future deployment and exploitation.
