Welcome to IOU Digital Library

This edited volume brings together leading theoretical and empirical work on personal epistemology — individuals’ beliefs about knowledge and knowing — in the context of classroom learning and instruction. Unlike much prior research that focused on adults or college students, it focuses on children, adolescents, and teachers from preschool through high school. The contributors re-examine existing conceptual frameworks, introduce new models, provide an empirical foundation for research on how epistemic beliefs relate to learning, and explore the implications of personal epistemology for instructional practice and educational outcomes.
