A legal analysis exploring the compatibility and interactions between classical Islamic concepts of qital (armed conflict) and the modern international law of armed conflict. Shah argues that Islamic law and international humanitarian law can be mutually reinforcing at national and regional levels, identifies gaps in traditional Islamic jurisprudence on war, and applies these insights to examine the conduct of parties in the armed conflict in Pakistan. The work is aimed at scholars and students of international law, Islamic law, security studies, and international relations.
