This edited volume revisits the concept of “unprotected workers” to analyze how poverty and labor vulnerability are produced and embedded in global political economy. Through a series of theoretical reflections and empirical case studies — covering issues such as migration, prostitution and the sex industry, informal and precarious labor in the Global South, gendered labor markets, and the politics of unionism — the book argues that unprotected workers play a critical, yet often invisible, role in shaping world politics.
