This book examines the term “Mozarab” and the history of those Christians living under Muslim rule in al‑Andalus and, later, in Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula. Drawing on decades of research and a wide range of Arabic, Latin, and legal sources, the author re-evaluates conventional understandings of Mozarab identity, arguing that “Mozarabism” was not a fixed status but a fluid, context-dependent phenomenon. The book traces the experiences of these communities across centuries — from early Islamic rule through the Reconquista and beyond — exploring how social, linguistic, religious, and political changes shaped their identity and legacy.
